Troy and Melanie (dot com) bio picture

Welcome to our life!

We are a growing family located in Austin, TX.  Not too long ago it was just the two of us.  Then we added our fur-baby, Bella.  And most recently we added our son, Cole.  This blog was created to keep our friends and families updated on the goings on at the Schneider household.  Given the new arrival, many of the posts will be geared towards our struggle to learn how to be good parents.

We enjoy watching movies, traveling, photography, reading, and hanging out with friends (preferably while doing anything in this list).  You are bound to read some funny stories here as we try to keep it light hearted and you'll definitely see a pile of photos.

So if you like a post, want to share your opinion, or just want to say hi feel free to leave us a comment.  We *love* comments.

Thank goodness the seedless watermelon is back!

Okay, so I hear watermelon is a common pregnancy craving.  Well, I fall into the statistic of women who seek out the juicy, pink goodness of this fruit.  I’ve been wanting it probably since sometime in early February and up until now, the only option for having it was buying a pre-made up container of fruit, containing about three chunks of watermelon and other bits of canteloupe, honeydew, pineapple, etc.  Don’t get me wrong – I love all manner of fruit, but I kept making (er, asking nicely) Troy get me more of these mixes just for the sheer pleasure of the watermelon chunks (which were not seedless).

Well, going to the store today, I discovered watermelons and containers full of seedless watermelon chunks.  Imagine my excitement.  :-D   So, as I type this, I am blissfully enjoying my watermelon chunks.  Mmmm!

NIF

Does anyone remember the RIF program from back in school?  RIF stood for Reading is Fundamental and it was a contest to read a certain amount or as many books as possible during a set time period.  I loved this contest each year and I don’t think it would be an exaggeration to say that I was quite the RIF overachiever.  :-)

Well, now I am overachieving in a new contest I like to call NIF…napping is fundamental.  That’s right…not since college have I appreciated the nap so much.  Most afternoons you can find me (and the peanut…and often Miss Bella too) lounging in bed…on my side, with a body pillow.  Yes, that has been another adjustment for Troy…poor man…he keeps losing more and more space in the bed.  LOL!

Naps are good.  Sleep is good (might as well get it now!) and since hunger and bladder function keep me from sleeping in like I once could, I might as well recoup some of my time in dreamland this way.  Have you had your nap today?

Schwub, schwub, schwub…

I love hearing the heartbeat.  Today was our 16 week appointment and we got to hear the heartbeat for the second time.  This time around, Troy recorded it onto the iPhones so we can listen to the little “schwub, schwub, schwub” of Peanut’s heartbeat anytime we want to.  Our little munchkin was moving around a bit again.  (There seems to be a theme there…)  Everytime the nurse would find the heartbeat, Peanut would move and she’d have to find it again.  We were rather amused by this.  The heartbeat has been strong each time we’ve seen/heard it…somewhere up in the 160s every time…and that just makes my heart beat with joy.  ;-)
