Welcome to our life!

We are a growing family located in Austin, TX.  Not too long ago it was just the two of us.  Then we added our fur-baby, Bella.  And most recently we added our son, Cole.  This blog was created to keep our friends and families updated on the goings on at the Schneider household.  Given the new arrival, many of the posts will be geared towards our struggle to learn how to be good parents.

We enjoy watching movies, traveling, photography, reading, and hanging out with friends (preferably while doing anything in this list).  You are bound to read some funny stories here as we try to keep it light hearted and you'll definitely see a pile of photos.

So if you like a post, want to share your opinion, or just want to say hi feel free to leave us a comment.  We *love* comments.

Cribs, Strollers, and Car Seats…Oh My!

Okay, some of you have managed to survive the baby registry challenge.  Yes, the idea of putting together a list of items you hope others will buy for you is a fun concept.  I completely looked forward to getting to the point where we were ready to start doing this.  I mean…shopping’s fun…and shopping for baby stuff…more fun…right?  Except…why are there about 3,000 different strollers???  Is the Baby Bjorn better than the Infantino Front to Back Carrier?  Is Desitin the brand of choice despite the fun name of Boudreax’s Butt Paste?  And Shopping Cart Liners…I never even thought about shopping cart liners before!  So, this is my plea…er, request.  If you have been there, done that…tell us what you think.  What brands do you live by?  What are the most important things for us to have/register for?  What things aren’t so important?  Share your wisdom with us and we will be grateful.

Thanks!

May 9, 2009 - 9:53 am Narf - I will tell you right now, go with desitin creamy. The regular desitin will paste itself to the rash and irritate it further when you try to wash it off. I had several kids who hated to have their diaper changed until I switched them to desitin creamy.

May 10, 2009 - 6:47 pm Jess - Ok, so we had the same issues!!! Thought that it would be fun, but it is a daunting task. Here is some advice. Must buys... a boppy (the best purchase we made), a swing (mini-babysitter while you shower, cook, etc.), a bouncy seat (when the swing won't cut it), a foam bath cusion (the plastic tubs take up too much space and they grow out of them quickly), lots of burp cloths, and a good supply of clothes (several outfit changes per day the first few months). Our stroller is a Chico and we love it- reasonable price and sturdy after our first year. Our car seat is an Evenflo. The expensive brands are just that- expensive and not really worth the extra money (most of the review weren't so great). We have and Infatino front carrier and it is great. You won't need the cart cover until baby can sit on their own and is out of the infant carrier(nasty germs on shopping carts, won't go to the store without it). A lot of stuff like diapers, wipes, soaps, lotions, butt cream is personal preferences and how it works for your little one. Hope this helps!!!
